Upāli

Upāli 優婆離 or 優婆利; 優波利 (or 優波離); 鄔波離 - A barber of śūdra caste, who became a disciple of Śākyamuni, and was one of the three sthaviras of the first Synod. He is reputed as the principal compiler of the monastic code (Vinaya), hence his title 持戒 ‘Keeper of the Laws’.
