DESCRIPTION
The Ārya-saṃdhi-nirmocana-sūtra or Noble sūtra of the Explanation of the Profound Secrets is an important sutra of the Yogācāra (or ‘Mind-Only’) school. It contains explanations of key Yogācāra concepts such as the ‘storehouse consciousness’ (ālaya-vijñāna), the doctrine of appearance-only (vijñapti-mātra), and the "three own natures" (trisvabhāva).
This sūtra was translated from Sanskrit into Chinese four times, the most complete and reliable of which is typically considered to be that of Xuanzang. It was also translated into Tibetan. There is presently no known Sanskrit version.
This is the primary sutra for study of the Sixth of the Eight Schools Yogacara School.
