CH 30 - Asaṃkhyeya (’Incalculable’) 阿僧祇

DESCRIPTION

A mind-boggling chapter that gives precise mathematical definitions of the numbers asaṃkhyeya, measureless, boundless, incomparable, innumerable, indescribable, inconceivable, incalculable, ineffable, and ineffably ineffable.

There are many things to note about this chapter. First, the contents of this chapter are spoken by the Buddha to Mind King Bodhisattva. While the ‘Buddha’ has spoken in other chapters of the sutra, it has primarily been bodhisattvas, bodhisattvas empowered by the Buddha, or those speaking in praise of the Buddha who have been ‘delivering the Dharma’.
