Chapter Six begins with Mahākāśyapa receiving a formal prediction of enlightenment. This leaves Mahāmaudgalyāyana, Subhūti, Mahakātyāyana, and others, trembling in fear.

Next, Subhūti receives a prediction of enlightenment. This is followed by Kātyāyana receiving a prediction, and then finally Maudgalyāyana
