PART ONE: Vedanā / ‘Sensations’
According to the Abhidharma, 100,000 koṭīs of sensations arise and cease in a finger snap.
According to the Bahuvedaniya Sutta (’The Many Kinds of Feelings’) MN #59
2️⃣ There are two kinds of sensations:
- Bodily
- Mental
3️⃣ There are three kinds of sensations:
- Pleasant
- Painful
- Neither Painful nor Pleasant
5️⃣ There are five kinds of sensations:
- Pleasure faculty
- Pain faculty
- Joy faculty
- Displeasure faculty
- Equanimity faculty
6️⃣ There are six kinds of sensations born of contact with:
- Eyes
- Ear
- Nose
- Tongue
- Body
- Mind
1️⃣8️⃣ There are eighteen kinds of sensations:
(6) Examination of Form, Sounds, Scents, Flavors, Tactile Sensations and Thoughts
(x3) Accompanied by either Joy, Displeasure, or Equanimity
1️⃣0️⃣8️⃣ There are, ultimately, one hundred and eight kinds of sensations:
(6) Joy of the six senses based on a household life
(6) Joy of the six senses based on renunciation
(6) Displeasure of the six senses based on a household life
(6) Displeasure of the six senses based on renunciation
(6) Equanimity of the six senses based on a household life
(6) Equanimity of the six senses based on renunciation
(x3) Those thirty-six sensations in the past, in the present or in the future
